Nova Scotia Weather

Nova Scotia is completely surrounded by water and since it lies near the Gulf Stream, its temperatures are generally more moderate than would be expected. Summer days often reach into the low 90s F/32-33 C, especially farther from the coast. The Atlantic coast is often foggy and cool, so make sure you dress accordingly.

Nights are almost always comfortably cool for sleeping (low 50s F/12 C to mid 60s F/18 C), but don't be caught off guard by heavy doses of humidity and muggy nights in late July through August. Usually, Cape Breton Island is a little bit cooler than the rest of the Nova Scotia. Spring is generally short lived, cool and you will find rain throughout most places in Nova Scotia at this time.

Late spring through to September are about 10 degrees F/5 degrees C cooler than summer and often very pleasant, and September often reaches highs of 55-70 F/13-21 C, with nights cooling down to the 50s. The northern shore is hardest hit and coolest in the winter on Cape Breton and on the coast, the warmer ocean air often turns the snow to rain throughout the first couple of months in the year.

May through June will usually bring a visible change in the seasons and is a great time for a fishing adventure. Fishresource.com recommends any time from May through early October for a fishing adventure.
